500 Days of Summer Review

500 Days of Summer

Classical romance movies can be found anywhere at anytime these days. Even just a few clicks on our tv remote we can watch one of it. But sometimes love stories are just a love story, knowing, being close, and getting attached to each and some problems are enclosed. Then i found this one is quite different from others. People always think this film is about a love story, even though the narrator said “This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story.” 500 Days of Summer by a genius Marc Webb.

Telling about Tom Hansen, someone who really believed in an idea of a true love. He thought that he’d never be really happy until the day he met the one. Tom radar’s caught Summer Finn, his boss’ assistant. He thought Summer was the one for his life in the first time he met her. Summer was an idenpendent girl and someone who couldn’t be tied by commitments.

Firstly, Tom didn’t believe in his heart. He kept avoiding Summer until he found out that Summer had some things in common with him. It encouraged him to get closer with her. Unfortunetly Summer wasn’t looking forward to getting attached to someone. They got theirselves in a friend zoned kind of relationship for a quite long time.

Suddenly, Summer said that what they had been doing was not right. Tom was  startled and said that he was happy being with her.
                “Aren’t you happy ? I’m happy.”said Tom
However Tom’s happiness wasn’t Summer’s.  This could be and could not be said as a breaking up part because Tom and Summer was never really in a relationship. Tom heart was cruelly torn apart. He got so depressed until he made his bestfriends and sister worried. Yet still Tom wanted to get Summer back, but then Summer moved to another city. Tom got more shattered then he decided to sign out from his job.

“ Most days of the year are unremarkable. They begin, and they end, with no lasting memories made in between. Most days have no impact on the course of a life. May 23rd was a Wednesday.
Tom was sitting on a park bench when suddenly Summer came over. Summer said that she was already married. Of course he was shocked because she never believed in love.
I just... I just woke up one day and I knew. “
“Knew what?”
What I was never sure of with you. “
Tom couldn’t say anything but wished Summer a happy life. Then Tom walking to an office to apply a job as a architect, his real dream. Arriving in the office he met a girl. A girl that said that she often saw Tom in some places but Tom didn’t realize. A girl that said that Tom hadn’t been really looking. A girl named, autumn.

Firstly, viewers were directed to imagine their own plot of this movie but then they’re amusingly surprised that the plot they’d made were wrong. Marc Webb made this story very light to accept but rich of contents and moral values. The dialogs were brought casually but implicitly deep. That’s why i put some of them in  this review.
I thought this movie is different also because the plot was going forward then backward then forward again, but still understandable. It started on the 488th day of “Summer” and ended on the 1st day of “Autumn”.
Joseph Gordon Levitt as Tom Hansen starred this movie perfectly. He could act his part like he was really feeling it. Beautiful actress Zooey Deschanel could be Summer Finn perfectly too. Their chemistry in this movie were what made it was really nice to watch also.

However i still believe that the director Marc Webb and the writers Scott Neudstadter and Michael H. Weber are geniuses behind this movie.  Marc who was really experienced by creating many well known music videos made this movie really epic and   Scott with Mike really made a genius high class literature in its dialogs.
